La pregunta estaba en el aire, más precisos, en las redes sociales y en los comentarios verbales no sólo de comunicadores sino de miembros de la sociedad civil: ¿porqué al obispo de Cuernavaca y Presidente de la Conferencia del Episcopado Mexicano, CEM, monseñor Ramón Castro Castro se le designó recipiendario de la “Presea Defensores de la Libertad de Expresión 2025”?
El reconocimiento que anualmente se otorga a cuatro personajes que se hayan distinguido en esa lucha que exige compromiso y valentía, se entrega en la solemne ceremonia conmemorativa del Día de la Libertad de Prensa y Expresión -7 de junio-, que se desarrolla al pie del Monumento dedicado a esas libertades primarias en la ciudad-capital, Cuernavaca.
Esa Presea, en sus dos ediciones, se ha convertido en un singular y apreciado galardón puesto que las instituciones otorgantes: El Consejo Cívico Ciudadano de Morelos y la Asociación de Comunicadores y Periodistas de Morelos, APECOMOR, que presiden el profesor y licenciado, Pablo Rubén Villalobos Hernández y el maestro, Teodoro Raúl Rentería Villa, respectivamente, lo deciden en base a los méritos de los galardonados.
La respuesta es precisa: El obispo de Cuernavaca, monseñor Ramón Castro Castro ha sido un persistente y valiente crítico ante los gobiernos del estado de Morelos, sobre todo el anterior que presidió el futbolista, Cuauhtémoc Blanco Bravo, ante la descomposición de gobernanza por la crisis de seguridad que ha padecido la población toda de la entidad, además por su firme defensa a los postulados que, en ese sentido, promueve la iglesia católica.
Por cierto, la calidad de monseñor que ostenta Castro Castro es un título honorífico que concede el Papa, no es un cargo específico, es un honor que concede el papa a ciertos sacerdotes destacados en sus diócesis en señal de reconocimiento.
El XII Obispo de Cuernavaca, nació en Teocuitatlán de Corona, Jalisco, el 27 enero de 1956. Fue ordenado Sacerdote en Tijuana, Baja California el 13 de mayo de 1982, inicia su ministerio en la parroquia de San José Obrero, de Ensenada. Ingresó al servicio diplomático de la Santa Sede el 1 de julio de 1989.
Estudió Filosofía y Teología en el Seminario de Tijuana. Es licenciado en Filosofía por la Universidad del Valle de Atemajac. Licenciado y Doctor en Teología Espiritual por el Teresianum de Roma. Licenciado en Derecho Canónico por la Universidad Pontificia de Roma. En 1985 ingresó a la Gregoriana Academia Eclesiástica, donde cursó Derecho Internacional y Diplomado en Lenguas.
Prestó sus servicios Diplomáticos en las Nunciaturas Apostólicas de Zambia y Malawi (1989-1992), de Angola (1992-1994), de Ucrania (1994-1996), de Venezuela (1996-1999), de Paraguay (1999-2001).
En el año 2001 fue nombrado Director del Óbolo de San Pedro, de la Secretaría de Estado en el Vaticano. El 2 de abril de 2004 S.S. Juan Pablo II lo nombra Obispo titular de Suelli, Italia y Obispo Auxiliar de la Arquidiócesis de Mérida, recibiendo la ordenación episcopal el 3 de junio de 2004.
El 8 de abril de 2006 S.S. Benedicto XVI lo nombra Obispo de Campeche y toma posesión el 25 de mayo del mismo año. El 15 de mayo de 2013 S.S. Francisco lo nombra Obispo de Cuernavaca, tomando posesión el día 10 de julio del mismo año.
En la Conferencia del Episcopado Mexicano es responsable de la Dimensión “Justicia, Paz y Reconciliación” de la Comisión Episcopal para la Pastoral Social.
El 9 de noviembre de 2021 fue nombrado Secretario General de la Conferencia del Episcopado Mexicano (CEM) para el trienio 2021-2024. El 12 de noviembre de 2024 fue nombrado Presidente de la Conferencia del Episcopado Mexicano, CEM, para el trienio 2024-2027.
Ramón Castro Castro es un valiente defensor de las libertades de prensa y expresión, de los derechos humanos, sin importar creencias o posiciones políticas. CONTINUARÁ.
